We choose each day what we are willing to accept in our lives. When it comes to love, we can stand firm on our desire to hold out for the best or be willing to settle for good enough. Below are some ways to make sure you never settle for less than what you really deserve.
Pros and Cons List
There are times when we must be pushed to act. A pros and cons list will help reveal the undeniable truth of whether or not your current relationship is working, if you are in a relationship. If things like depression, low self-esteem, and self-pity are on your con list then it is time to get out of that relationship.
Fairytales are False
When you have learned to believe in happy endings and Prince Charming rescuing you from something, you are much more likely to put up with any behaviors that a guy feeds you simply because you believe the fairytale rhetoric that it will work out. You may truly believe he will change and end up the perfect guy, but this is not how the real world works. Act like you are living in this world, not in someone’s imagination.
Listen to Your Gut
If someone you are seeing causes you to feel the need to run, do not stick around or question your intuition. This feeling is occurring for a reason, to help protect and guide you. When you know something is wrong but stick around, then you will likely end up in trouble.
Love Yourself
This is an empowering step in which you walk away from a bad relationship and recover because you settled. Whatever a guy can’t offer you, do for yourself because you are fully equipped to do so. As you start to fill this void, that feeling of worthlessness will diminish as you develop your new power of self-sufficiency. Knowing what you really deserve and treating yourself accordingly will provide clarity that you need for all relationships.
Don’t Do What Does Not Feel Right
Even if you are with a guy that is the nicest person in the world, funny, respectful, and thoughtful, if you do not feel it and can’t figure out why, walk away. It does not matter why you are not completely taken. If you do not feel right in the beginning, it will not suddenly happen a year from now.
What is Your Partner Doing
If you express your desires and needs to a partner and he never seems to meet them, that is enough to know about the relationship. If you stay, you are settling. There is someone who will not feel you are asking too much or as a burden or hard work, but this person is not it.
Meditate
Meditating allows you to stay centered and present in the moment so you know your feelings. Sitting with these emotions create balance between the heart and mind so you can make sound decisions. Chaos only works in chaos, so keep your peace.
Advice Mode
Use your imagination and look at your relationship as if it belonged to your sister or best friend. What advice would you give them if they were in a similar situation? When we give advice, we are willing to share what we see and intuitively know out of love. It can be hard to take our own advice, but it will ultimately serve us well.
Face the Fear
Is some type of fear, abandonment, rejection, other deep-seated issues, holding you in this unhealthy relationship? A struggling relationship may have brought these fears to life and made them worse. If you want to move on, turn over your fears and move on, life will get better.
Don’t Give Up
Do not give up on what you love in life like goals, hobbies, talents, and friends. Theses are what make you who you are, special, and whole. If you feel like you have already given these things up and no longer understand who you are, it is time to rediscover that person and then hold on tight.
